Oheka Castle | Jessica and Dan | Short Film

I love snow, sometimes. I love the first snowfall after a long hot summer. I love a nice snow storm when I am home and snuggled on the couch with my wife watching a movie. But I do not love the snow when it could possibly interfere with a wedding! After a pretty brutal winter I was over the snow and thought we had seen the last of it being March and all – I was wrong.

Jess and Dan’s wedding was a 2 day affair. The first day was a traditional Taiwanese Tea Ceremony followed by the next day’s wedding ceremony and reception. The night before the tea ceremony the skies opened up and snow just dropped down – all night and morning long. We had to get to Long Island for the tea ceremony so we left extra early – with snowfall continuing the whole drive we were worried things would get worse but fortunately they didn’t – we got there with out a hitch and so did all of Jess and Dan’s guests. We were worried that it would continue on and that the actual wedding day would be in jeopardy or just a mess and although the snow continues through the afternoon of the Tea Ceremony the next day was BEAUTIFUL out. It was warm and sunny and the snow left an amazing picturesque view of an already picturesque place, Oheka Castle.

With an amazing team of vendors all brought together by the super talented ladies of Sixpence for your shoe the wedding went off with out an issue.

Jess and Dan were two of the sweetest people we have ever worked with. Their vows to each other were so touching and the little stories we heard them tell about each other while they were getting ready just radiated their love for each other.

Putting together a short film for them was tough with so many beautiful, emotional moments, an amazing location, stunning decor and Chinese Lion Dancers but we were able to fit it all in to one of our best ever!

I hope you all enjoy their short film as much as we enjoyed filming and editing it! Congratulations Jess and Dan!

10 Years in Business and a New Website!!!!!

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was early in 2003 when it all started. I had always been in to filming and editing but the thought of doing weddings never crossed my mind until my friend contacted me about doing her sister’s friend’s wedding. Just because I enjoyed filming and editing I said yes even though at the time I had only been to one wedding.

I asked a friend of mine to help out and we were on our way. It was January 31, 2003. Not knowing what to do or even what happens at weddings, we spent the entire day winging it and quickly I realized I was way under equipped and unprepared for this. At the end of the night I was unsure about what we filmed or what I was going to do with it, but I had a great time and was hooked!

When I sat down to edit everything just fell into place. I started thinking about what I would want to see in a wedding video and before I knew it I had created something that I was proud of even though the footage wasn’t great.

When the Bride and Groom saw the video they were thrilled! They had nothing but nice things to say and mentioned how I should be filming weddings more. I decided to listen to their suggestion and give it a go.

With the help of a friend we came up with the name Digital Media Odyssey. I designed and launched a website and drew up a logo which served as my logo until 2009.

I looked for anywhere online and off that I could advertise for free to spread the name. Before I knew it I had 10 weddings booked for that first year in business which paved the way for us to be the success we are today! It was years of hard work and long hours to get to where I am now and I would never change it for the world. I truly love what I do.

Through the years many things have changed with the business. I’m on my 5th logo, my 6th (maybe 7th?) website and I have been through more equipment than I can ever remember! We’ve changed formats and styles quite a bit, all which helped lead us to our current style, which is by far the best work we have ever done.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of our brides and grooms, their families and friends, my wife, my family and my friends and all who have supported me along this crazy last 10 years!

With our ten years, today I am unveiling our new site design, blog and logo! I hope you all enjoy it!

Below you can see the change in our logos through the years – thought it would be fun to dig these up! Click to enlarge.

So again thank you all! We are excited for what’s in store for the future, and here’s to another 10 years! Happy Valentines Day to all!

Wedding Video Short Film | Hartford and Westbrook CT | The Waters Edge | Cara + Mike

We always hear the saying; It’s a small world – well that couldn’t be further from the truth!

I did not have the pleasure of meeting with Cara and Mike before their wedding but when I got their questionnaire I noticed that Mike was getting ready in Manchester which is where I grew up. His name sounded familiar, but with it being a somewhat common name I didn’t think much about it and chalked Manchester up to just being a coincidence – people move and settle all over the place so although it was in the back of my head I didn’t think much of it.

When I first saw Mike I introduced myself and mic’d him up for the ceremony and although he looked familiar I wasn’t sure it was the Mike I went to high school with and I didn’t want to have that awkward moment – “hey are you Mike I went to HS with?” “No? Ok…this is weird now”…plus he didn’t say anything to me and my name isn’t exactly common so again I just figured it was all coincidence.

After a beautiful ceremony at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford we headed to their venue, The Water’s Edge in Westbrook in a hurry to try and beat the rain to get some pictures on the beach.

The amazing team of Candace and her husband Josh of Candace Jeffery Photography were fantastic. They flew through the pictures in such an organized manner that we fit in almost all of them before the rain started coming down. Since we had a bit of gap in between we headed for shelter in hopes the rain would clear to get some more shots of Cara and Mike. It was at that point that Mike turned to me and asked if I went to Manchester High School. Small world! We didn’t know each other well in high school but we knew of each other which lead to the confusion and both of us not wanting to make the other feel awkward. We spent the next few minutes catching up and not too long after, the skies cleared and we headed out for more pictures! Small world.

When we headed inside to get setup for the reception I caught a glimpse of one of the band members and immediately recognized him – it was one of my good friends, Jeremy from College who I hadn’t seen in years! He had just started playing saxophone with the band and this was his first gig. Again, small world!

Once the reception started, Pandemonium, the band, had the dance floor packed with their awesome mix of music!

At the end of the day Cara and Mike had an amazing wedding with all their great family members and friends and a fantastic team of wedding pros! Below is their short film!

Wedding Highlight Film | New Haven CT | The New Haven Lawn Club | Colleen and Mark

It’s the holiday season so what better way to get your mind in the loving mood than by watching such a sweet and amazing couple get married!

Mark and Colleen were married at St Josephs Church in New Haven, CT followed by a beautiful reception at the New Haven Lawn Club. We love the Lawn Club – every time we are there it looks entirely different and this time around it was all due to Colleen’s amazing vision which was brought to life by both Lynda from Details Wedding and Party Planing and Carey from Stems Flower Design.

The reception kicked off with some heartfelt toasts and right into a lot of fun dancing – and a fun photobooth put together by the amazing photography team of Max and Katie from Dreamlove photography! Seriously – they were so great to work with! Katie, who was very pregnant at the time was doing everything she could to avoid our cameras – ducking and diving like a ninja! Check out the photo’s of the day over at their blog – Dreamlove Photography Blog. They also provided us with a few stills from the photobooth for the film!

There was so much amazing footage from the day it was so hard to fit it into a 4 minute film but in the end we did and it’s one of our favorites!
